Tools & Cleaning
Mixer, stainless steel and/or plastic smoother, gloves, tarpaulin, tape, polishing-machine with grain size from 80 to 120.
Clean tools in water after use.
Prepare the support & Soil quality
The base surface must be resistant, sound, solid, clean, dry and free of humidity.
Use Harmony Neutral Agent or Harmony Degreaser for any cleaning required (to remove grease, oil etc).
Whatever the base surface, it is essential that the Harmony Primer range should be used, in order to prevent any resurgence of humidity or excessively rapid drying of mortar, and to enhance adhesion to the base surface.
Before applying Harmony Wax Concrete, it is essential to determine whether the base surface is porous or impervious.
To do this, apply a few drops of water.
If the water is absorbed, the base surface is porous. If not, it is described as impervious.
Selection of Primer
On a porous base surface use Harmony Primer, and on an impervious base surface use Harmony Primer Plus.
On a wet base surface, such as a shower, sink, basin or, more generally, any porous surface (plaster, timber, syporex, BA 13 etc.) which is in regular contact with water and has not been sealed beforehand, Harmony Epoxy Primer should be used.
On tiling, use Harmony Cement Adhesive, which will fill any joints in the tiling, and prevent the pattern of tiling showing through.
If you have joints in the bathroom that do not go straight, before applying Harmony Epoxy Primer, get the special bathroom corner set which includes an epoxy resin and fiberglass strips.
For more information, see the data sheets for primers and cement adhesive.
Application
Application must be completed within a temperature range of 10°C and 25°C.
The mix will remain workable for 45 minutes
1. Mix to a ratio of 1 part resin to 4 parts of powder, or 250 ml of resin per kg of powder, until a uniform mix is achieved.
2. Apply the first layer using the PermaPro stainless steel smoother or the Permapro float.
This first layer ensures adhesion to the base surface, and corrects any irregularities. This layer should have a maximum thickness of 1 – 2 mm.
The surface will then be floated using the PermaPro squeegee or the PermaPro squeegee float, in order to eliminate any sharp edges or defects in application, and to ensure the more effective adhesion of the second pass.
3. Apply a second layer, at least 2 hours after the application of the first layer.
In order to facilitate the application of the second layer, the surface may be slightly moistened before this application, in order to prevent the excessively rapid drying of the ciré concrete.
It is possible to increase the resin/powder ratio, e.g. to 300 ml of resin per kg of powder, in order to facilitate the application of the second layer.
If this option is to be applied, a larger quantity of resin should be ordered. Resin should never be diluted with water.
Depending upon the desired effects, the surface should be finished using the PermaPro stainless steel smoother, the PermaPro float or the PermaPro plastic smoother.
This stage is critical to the creation of effects, and to the durability and longevity of the surfacing.
4. 24 hours after the application of the second layer, the surface should be ground using an eccentric grinder or the PermaPro grinding block, with a 80 – 120, or a 180-grit grade.
Grinding produces a smoother and silkier finish, and enhances textural effects.
Protection
On walls, except in bathrooms and kitchens, Harmony Wax should be used.
For normal traffic, Harmony Premium Lacquer should be used.
For heavy traffic, or for maximum protection, Harmony Pore Sealing Agent should be applied, followed by Harmony Optimum Lacquer.
On walls, except in bathrooms and kitchens, Harmony Wax should be used. To protect your lacquer against abrasion, apply Harmony Wax.
For more information, see technical data sheet on lacquers.
